References and Formatting Standards

To maintain consistency and academic integrity, authors must adhere to the following bibliographic and formatting standards when preparing submissions to the Saudi Journal of Medicine and Public Health (SJMPH).

Recommended Reference Style: Vancouver (Numbered)

SJMPH uses the Vancouver referencing style, which is a numbered citation system commonly used in medical and health science journals.

In-text Citation:

  • Cite references using Arabic numerals in round brackets, e.g., (1), (2), (3).

  • Assign references in the order they appear in the text.

  • If a reference is cited more than once, use the same number.

Reference List:

  • The list of references must appear at the end of the manuscript, ordered numerically by citation.

  • Use official abbreviations of journal titles (e.g., as listed in PubMed).

  • Include DOIs or URLs for online sources whenever possible.

  • Do not include personal communications or unpublished data in the reference list; cite them within the text only.
